A look of gaming by women working behind the scenes.
Although anyone hopes that the gaming industry includes a diverse workforce as different characters and the world we see on the screen, it often does not happen. In fact, according to Statistta, less than 21 % of people working in the gaming industry identify as women.
Learn more about the unique challenges of being a woman in the large -scale male field, we talked to some talented women working behind the scenes in your favorite sports.
Amy Scott: Producer in Loside Games, Ltd.
Do you see that today’s ready -made games have been represented by yourself?
Not at all. I have seen Eli these roles like these The last of us And in Clementine Walking deadWhich can be a good role model for little girls. Lara is also a craft, whose physical imagery is developing extensively! I remember the day I went to the computer store for a copy Catz The PC’s and Lara’s grandchildren collided with and almost both eyes were removed.
I have not come from a character that I think represents me. Name a short, quite angry, an Irish woman dressed in childhood and I will eat my curve hat. Seriously, though, I can try sports and that’s important. We may not be there right now, but the final steps in the right direction.
What will you consider your greatest achievement in the video game industry?
My biggest success in the video game industry is my hardship and flexibility. When I was so strong, “no”, all the time was being treated unfairly, relying on my intestine, patience and recognizing a good opportunity…
I was educated for girls in Catholic Convent and I was very interested in art, mathematics and physics. I wanted to work in the creative industry but didn’t know what the industries were or how to go about.
Unfortunately, my career adviser was extremely ignorant, so I was told that the artist is not a profitable career. I went after my GCSE and went to the sixth farm college. The career adviser told me that the career was very competitive in the media so don’t worry. I asked him, “What will happen if I am a competition?”
The fact is that I am here, and I have worked to become a producer for a company ranging from the first level of the ladder to make content to make the content proud, it is a success. As long as I can, I am filled with creative talented people, and a place where I have a place and positive energy to grow as well, I am looking forward to continuing my career with Loside Games.
Marina Dz Periro: Free Lance Game Designer
You have faced some challenges as a woman in the male -influenced industry?
I think I need to be permanently showing that I am talented and valuable. Not only is it that you need to show that you are a good professional, but you also need to succeed in other things, such as social media, and of course being warm and beautiful – everything at the same time. This is something that is not openly asked about women, but it lies in the society and not only in the sports industry.
Do you see that today’s ready -made games have been represented by yourself?
Of course I represent more than that when I played Pokémon yellow The first time I was five years old and I found out that my gender was “male” as a default. However, we still need to work on diversity and participation, not only with women, but also with minorities.
What will you advise other women who are interested in a career in gaming?
My advice for women, not only for those who are interested in gaming careers, but in general, is that they should do whatever they want and whatever the opinion of others makes them happy. It seems very basic, but society teaches women very well that they need to care about others while they forget what they really want.
Robin Gray: Chief Creative Officer and Coofer in the Second World Interactive
Have you faced any challenges that are unique to being a woman in the masculine influence industry?
I don’t think I have experienced any of it … I think, because my brother did all this – he’s nine years older than me – I saw him doing X, Wi, or z and assumed that I could do it, why I wouldn’t do it?
But in fact, I couldn’t admit that being a woman would have an effect on my life until the gamer gate really started coming and I started to go, “I think I’m a woman.” But I don’t really think of myself like this. I just think of myself that a person is trying to get goods.
How do you think the gaming industry can become a more comprehensive place for women?
Generally, joining is a problem. Cultural and ethnic participation in sports is also terrifying. What we are trying to do with the main characters in our games is trying to divert them or give you the options to diversify and represent.
Obviously the rental problem is definitely.
But I understand what’s more important than that, or at least the important thing is whether you have all these women or colorful people who play games and play games, but they are always caught playing white men. I think when we hire more women and usually get more diverse services, hopefully their influence will create more experiences where you can become a diverse character that will encourage more women to get continuous and growing services.

What is your favorite sport of all time?
This is a difficult question why I have a lot of, but if I had to choose a, Person 5 (Atlas) from the outside: a very charming, stylish, and a lot of Japanese RPG, but there is more. I liked the links between the rhetoric and all the characters. While removing the imagery, women were empowered and independent and were not used in auxiliary characters to see men through their mission. They were a unit and, spent about 100 hours playing this game, I was sad to see it.
Do you see that today’s ready -made games have been represented by yourself?
The role of women is becoming less supportive or reward for male lead roles in video games. Character like Claire Redfield (Resident Evil 2), Lara Craft (Tom Rider), And Aloyi (Horizon Zero Dawn) I can be very much. Young women are trying to seek their cause with obstacles. It’s not easy, but in the end they move on to what they are ready to do. I am sure, like me, this is something that every woman in the industry can belong.
How can young women get more in gaming space?
Participate in more and more programs, whether they talk about growth or big shows such as EGX, Games work, or E3. The industry is about the construction of a strong network, so if more young women were involved in public programs, they would have the opportunity to talk to other women in the industry and start construction.
Rana Prick: Leadwater for Crystal Dynamics Tom Rider (2013) and The height of the tomb raid (2015)
How were you able to create a fresh, modern story around a famous character Lara Craft?
Developers, crystal dynamics, were going into a quite empty slate reboot, and we could choose and choose the elements we wanted to keep, want to increase, or work together. We were not looking at a particular element. We decided to focus this story on a small, green lara, which is on its first major adventure outside college. She is facing the things she never experienced before, from which she raises the question of what she knows the world and herself.
Finally, he realized that if he had any hope of surviving, he would face a challenge. Focusing on a small lara was allowed to bubble the “Tamb Rider”, and it also meant that we could find topics such as human vs. Heroes and Sacrifice vs. Damage.
How do you look for gaming in the next decade?
I think we will jump and improve the VR, MR, and AR, both self -tech and sports. Hopefully we will see more studios that Teltel will embrace episodic gaming in the Games and Dinode methods, and make players different ways to bring story. It would also be good to see a new fruit flower in the development of the middle land. One that accepts independence and creativity of Indi development, with AAA’s productive values.
Do you see yourself representing the games that are getting ready today?
Certainly the taste of my gaming, yes. Although the 42 -year -old women acting in sports are not too much, which is a shame. Hopefully, when we begin to accept diversity as much as we start, we will extend it to age, background and experience as well as other areas.
